Experience & Impact | Upon completing the self-enrol module, Module Design for Online / Blended, Nunzia chose to apply the template structure that was developed for all staff in the College of Business to the modules that she was due to teach in AY20/21.
Beginning in trimester 1, Nunzia installed the template in her module, Statistics and Simulation Methods, which is a postgraduate module with an enrolment of approximately 119 students. The template contains a fully editable pre-defined structure for modules on Brightspace. Nunzia reviewed the structure that was made available to her via the template and edited the structure as necessary. The template contains not only the basic structure of the online module but information about suggestions on what type of content could be added to each area. For example, the ‘start here’ unit proposes adding a welcome video in order to create an immediate connection with students, a suggestion that Nunzia followed. In trimester 2, Nunzia applied the template to her module, Advanced Operations Research, another post graduate module with an enrolment of approximately 32 students. Again, Nunzia edited the template to suit the needs of this module. Feedback over the past academic year has shown that students experienced difficulties in accessing content due the lack of a consistent structure, or signposting of content in their modules on Brightspace. Adding the template to the module gave Nunzia a defined starting point for her module and allowed her to organise her content in the most effective way for her students learning in the online environment. |
