Recording and Publishing
- The College owns the intellectual property of the content of lectures and other teaching sessions.
Recordings are covered by the College’s Intellectual Property and GDPR policies. - Recordings will not be initiated without prior consent from the lecturer being recorded.
- It is the responsibility of the module coordinator to advise students that they may inadvertently be recorded.
- Lecture Capture enabled classrooms will be clearly identified with signage.
- Staff who wish to record guest speakers must ensure that they have obtained agreement from the speaker(s) in advance and have written consent by way of a consent form. Consent forms are available here.
- It is the responsibility of individual members of staff to ensure that the material used for teaching and learning activities is copyright cleared.
- Recordings will not be used for staff performance management purposes.
- The College of Business will continue to evaluate the use of Lecture Capture to ensure that it enhances the student learning experience.
Distribution and Retention of Lecture Recordings
- The recordings of teaching and learning activities will be distributed securely within the VLE, Brightspace, unless otherwise requested.
- A preview of the lecture recording will be sent to the lecturer for review. Under no circumstances will the recordings be made available automatically unless explicitly directed by the lecturer in question. The lecturer retains the right to make the recording unavailable at any time.
- By default, recordings will be published to the appropriate module in which the live lecture forms part. This has the benefit of providing students with a visually consistent access point to captured lectures across all their modules.
- To assist students with course revision and examination preparation, lecture recordings should remain accessible on the VLE for the duration of the module.
- By default, recordings will be stored securely on the College of Business Media Server.
- Recordings of student group presentations for the purposes of assessment will be available to the Module Coordinator (MC) in which the assessment is taking place only, and will be deleted from our secure media server after the assessment period has ended.
- In the case of recordings made by guest speakers and those outside the University, a link to the recording will be made available for review before the recordings are distributed.
- Presentations and lectures delivered via live-stream are broadcast in real time, however subsequent edits can be made to the recording thereafter.

Who owns my recordings?
The College owns the intellectual property of the content of lectures and other teaching sessions, while lecturers retain performance rights. The recordings will not be used for any purpose without explicit consent from all subjects (lecturers and students) involved.
Recordings are covered by the College’s Code of Practice for Intellectual Property. The rights of lecturers and the privacy of individuals will be respected and protected.

How long will my recordings be available?
To assist students with course revision and examination preparation, lecture recordings should remain accessible on the VLE for the duration that the student has access to the module for which they are registered. Unless specifically requested otherwise, recordings will be routinely deleted 13 months after the completion of the module. No recordings will be kept beyond this point without additional explicit consent from all subjects (lecturers and students) involved. Staff and students are free to request deletion of any recording that includes their image.
